The biggest reform in the area of personal data protection will be discussed at a conference

The biggest reform in the area of personal data protection will be discussed at an expert conference entitled “GDPR Sofia” to be held at the NDK Conference Centre on 29 January (Monday).

The discussion on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) becoming effective will be under the auspices of the Ministry for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and will be organized by the Digital National Alliance.

The Regulation will enter into force in May 2018 during Bulgaria’s Presidency and it will become mandatory for each business, operating with personal data.  It will imply a significant change in the way companies and organizations operating with EU citizens’ personal data work - starting with compliance with a number of regulations and ending with imposing significant sanctions for infringements.

GDPR has been the most significant change in privacy regulations for the past 20 years.

The forum will be opened by the Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU Lilyana Pavlova, the Minister for Transport IT and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski and Ventsislav Karadzhov, Chairman of the Commission for Personal Data Protection. Representatives of European and national regulators, personal data protection experts with legal and technical background, businesses and the government will attend the event.

More information about the event is available on the Presidency calendar.
