According to the latest figures of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) released on13 May, the inflation in Bulgaria stood at 0%. The index of consumer prices in May compared to April was 100 %, which accounted for a monthly inflation of 0%.
Since the beginning of the year there has been deflation of 1%, while compared to May last year, deflation has stood at 2%.
Compared to April, there was increase in the prices of food products and soft drinks, alcohol beverages and tobacco products, clothing and shoes, healthcare and transport.
In May, the prices of education and housing and utility bills retained their levels from the previous month.
There was decrease in the prices of furniture, domestic appliances and home maintenance, communications, entertainment and culture, restaurant and hotel services.
In May, the prices of the following food products increased: flour, pasta, minced meat, yellow cheese, fresh fruits, cucumbers, potatoes, carrots, garlic, lentil, sugar, non-chocolate sugar products, coffee, ice cream, baby foods, carbonated drinks.
In the same month, there was decrease in the prices of the following food products: rice, pork meat, poultry meat, milk and yoghurt, white cheese, margarine, sunflower oil, eggs, beans, tomatoes, cabbage, spring onion, salt, mineral water, hard liquor.
As regards non-food products and services, increase was registered in the prices of cigarettes, clothing and shoes, water supply, sewage services, water purification services, liquid fuels for domestic needs, diesel fuel, A95H and A98H petrol, domestic appliances and daily newspapers.
At the same time, there was drop in the prices of hard and gas fuels for domestic needs, international flights, mobile phones and services, TV sets, personal computers, short-term accommodation, theatre and cinema, cosmetic products, detergents, washing liquid.
In May, the prices of medical products increased, while those of medical and dental services retained their levels from April.
