As of May 1, 2017, visas for Canada will not be required for Bulgarians who have visas for the USA, Bulgarians who have already visited the country and for businesses.
This obligation was undertaken by Canadian PM Justin Trudeau in a telephone conversation with Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov on Thursday evening.
The conversation was held on the initiative of Trudeau and Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova also participated.
According to the plan presented by Canada, visas for all Bulgarian citizens should be abolished by the end of next year. The deadline may be extended to May 1, 2018 but no later than that, in case of technical reasons due to the huge amount of administrative work and the upgrade of the systems, explained Trudeau.
The Canadian government’s decision is a key one since it is viewed as a step towards the abolition of visas for Bulgarian citizens for the USA, read the statement of the government press centre.
Borisov and Trudeau have agreed to exchange visits in 2017. These will be the first meetings between the two countries at the prime ministerial level.
