In the period 29 November - 1 December 2016 Sofia will host the first “International Congress on World Civilizations and Modern Tourism”, a joint event of the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Bulgaria and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
The congress objective is to gather in one place high-rank officials from the government, public, private and academic sector from around the world, who will exchange innovative ideas and knowledge. The event will promote the innovative approach to cultural tourism, presenting the idea of world civilizations in an attractive and non-standard way. This format would allow the participants to share their best experience as to how the combination between modern tourism and world civilizations may be a successful motive power for the development of tourism worldwide.
The ministers of tourism of the 157 member states of WTO are invited to attend the event. 30 more official representatives of various administrations from around the world have expressed their interest for participation in the event. It is expected that more than 1000 participants will take part in the international two-day forum.
On 29 November, the first day of the Congress, a high-level meeting will be held, which will also be attended by the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Mr. Taleb Rifai. In the framework of the meeting, the representatives will also have the opportunity to share the experience of their countries and their specific proposals.
